This month Laser Technik Journal has a review of the Industrial Laser Materials Processing – the origin, current status and outlook. Written by Wolfram Rath and Corinna Brettschneider of ROFIN-SINAR Laser GmbH in Hamburg this article looks at how industrial laser technology has developed over the past 40 years.
Dramatic reductions in the physical size of laser systems and an impressive increase in efficiency have encouraged adoption of laser processing in many industries. As the years have passed, laser power has increased as well as beam quality, resulting in higher processing speeds and more efficient production processes. The authors discuss advances in CO2 lasers and solid-state lasers – both of these technologies have seen significant growth. ROFIN offers a wide range of laser platforms including fibre lasers, YAG lasers, diode-pumped solid state lasers, diode lasers, CO2 lasers and Ultra-Short Pulse lasers.
