Industrial manufacturers are switching to plastics for more and more components to save weight, for example to reduce costs and improve fuel economy in automotive vehicles.  The production of these lightweight plastic parts frequently requires laser welding.  ROFIN offers a family of laser workstations, the MPS, with tailor made integration packages for polymer welding.

The unique features of ROFIN’s plastic welding solutions are the MPS workstation, the DILAS Compact Evolution diode laser and application-specific control software tailored to the individual requirements of the customer.  The system solution is available in two versions: as a complete turnkey system or as an integration package including laser source, fixture and control software.

HMI and clamping specifically designed for polymer welding

The systems are equipped with a special human machine interface (HMI) for polymer welding and a work piece clamping unit working with either a pneumatic or a servo clamping drive, manufactured to the specific requirements of each customer.  The control software for the joining process has been specially developed for polymer welding applications e.g. to deliver a setting signal and level for process control and quality assurance.  Data can be logged for process statistics and quality management.

Desktop laser marker for plastic materials – EasyMark

As well as plastic welding, ROFIN offers a complete range of laser markers suited to plastic components, starting with the entry-level EasyMark which has a modular concept to achieve a large working area within an extremely compact housing.  The system can be optionally equipped with a rotation axis, various optics and external or through-the-lens camera solutions.  It accommodates completely air-cooled laser sources with power ranging from 10 to 50 W. The system can be optionally equipped with an integrated, full-fledged CAD suite.
