20 years ago, in 1995, ROFIN showed the first manual laser welder for jewellery applications at the Inhorgenta Show in Munich, Germany. The original Performance laser welder was the first product in a completely new class – manual laser welding systems, allowing the jewellery designer the flexibility of creative manual welding with all the benefits of the low heat input from a laser. Now in 2015, the latest lasers from ROFIN for welding, engraving and cutting, can be seen at Jewellery and Watch Birmingham at the Spring Fair, NEC from 1st to 5th February 2015.
ROFIN’s policy of continuous improvement based on customer feedback and insider knowledge of the applications in the jewellery workshop has resulted in the 7th generation of Performance laser welder [image] which offers advanced reliability and user friendliness. With a large touch screen, a dynamic footswitch and advanced display of pulse parameters, the Performance is even better suited to the jewellery workshop. An accurate microscope and the alignment of the laser beam to the optical path result in exact positioning of welds – critical when welding close to sensitive or high-value stones.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without partnering with the technology leader ROFIN”
ROFIN uses industry experts to provide helpful input into the future development of its laser workstations. Tobias Teigelkötter from Munich was present at the debut of the Performance. Now, the owner of jewellery design workshop ‘Atelier Teigelkötter’ is a pilot user and provides feedback and ideas to the ROFIN development team. “Today, our ROFIN lasers complete a lot of work which used to be very time-consuming or wasn’t feasible at all. The laser systems are running all day long and quite frequently we are pushing the limits of what is possible. This is where ideas for new laser applications or improved handling concepts evolve. With ROFIN as a partner, we have already developed quite a few of these improvements and they have become part of new hardware or software releases. In that way all users benefit from our expertise. This goes for me as well, I wouldn’t be where I am today without partnering with the technology leader ROFIN.”
Engraving and now cutting – easy with the EasyJewel
Also on display at Jewellery and Watch Birmingham will be the ROFIN EasyJewel, a specially-adapted laser engraving system based on the field-proven EasyMark. With the addition of a Ring Marking Module (RMM), a camera and a tiltable rotary axis, the EasyJewel uses custom software to make the engraving and cutting of jewellery metals easy and flexible for even novice users.
