Packaging

Within the packaging sector there are two main uses of laser processing technology. These cover both medical and food packaging; but can be used on any flexible film packaging application.

Perforation

The production of micro-perforations (usually <100μm) into single ply or laminate film. Typically this application is used to manufacture Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) solutions; such as salad / produce bags.

Scribing

The removal of a single ply of material within a laminate. This process is typically used for easy-opening solutions within food packaging. The benefit of this selective weakening application is that the laser will only remove a single ply of the material; this means that the packaging retains its integrity. There will be a controlled tear along the scribe line; meaning that the contents do not spill out. Web-direction and Cross-Web solutions are available.
